How To Use The Indeed App Inside ChatGPT To Improve Your Job Search

Indeed, the world’s largest job marketplace, just announced a major expansion of its partnership with OpenAI by launching the Indeed App inside ChatGPT,a built-in job discovery experience that lets users search for relevant opportunities directly within the conversational interface of ChatGPT.

Until now, as a career coach I’ve been helping my coaching clients use AI tools like ChatGPT as a thinking partner — translating what they enjoy doing, what they want more of in their careers, and where their strengths lie into clearer role definitions. Together, we’ve used it to identify roles worth pursuing, refine resumes, draft cover letters, and update LinkedIn profiles with more intention.

This new integration represents a meaningful step forward. Rather than using AI only to articulate career direction, job seekers can now use conversational AI to actively discover job postings that better align with their strengths, purpose, and preferred way of working.

Once you prompt ChatGPT with a job-related query that references Indeed, the system pulls on Indeed’s proprietary job marketplace data and matching algorithms, which include hundreds of millions of profiles and job listings, along with years of hiring signals. Together, these help deliver personalized job recommendations and insights right in the chat.

How You Can Use It

To make the most of the new Indeed App in ChatGPT:

1. Connect your Indeed profile: import your preferences and resume details so the AI can tailor results accurately.

3. Explore beyond keyword search: ask for recommendations by industry trends, salary ranges, or specific work arrangements like remote flexibility.
4. Follow up with intelligent prompts: once you see a job, ask ChatGPT to help draft application materials or prepare for interviews.
    

Step 1: Open the Indeed app inside ChatGPT

1. In this ChatGPT window, look for Apps (usually on the left sidebar or under “Explore”).
2. Find and select Indeed.
3. If prompted, connect your Indeed account (this lets it use your resume, saved jobs, preferences).

Step 2: Start with a natural, human prompt 

Type something like this:

“Find me jobs using Indeed that match my background as a career and executive coach, focused on leadership, emotional intelligence, and performance under stress. Prefer remote or hybrid roles in the U.S.”

What should happen:

• ChatGPT pulls real job listings from Indeed
• Results are filtered by role, location, and experience
• You’ll see actual opportunities, not generic suggestions

Step 3: Narrow it 

Now layer clarity (this is where it gets powerful):

“Refine those roles to director-level or senior individual contributor roles, salary $120K+, and companies that value wellbeing or leadership development.”

This replaces:

• Multiple filters
• Saved alerts
• Endless scrolling

Step 4: Explore strategically 

Try one of these prompts:

Trend-based

“What types of leadership or people roles are growing fastest right now on Indeed?”

Career-pivot

“Based on my background, what adjacent roles should I consider that I may not be searching for?”

Reality check

“Which of these roles best match my experience, and where would I need to upskill?”

Step 5: Pick one job and go deeper

When a role shows up, say:

“Help me understand why this role is a good match for me and what the hiring manager is likely looking for.”

Then:

“Help me tailor my resume and talking points for this role.”
